PlayBack vs a demo account: which one makes you a better trader?

Updated 18 October 2026 · 5 min read

Almost every broker gives you a free demo account, so why practise with PlayBack at all? Because the two tools answer different questions. A demo account tests your platform skills in today’s market; PlayBack tests your strategy across years of markets, quickly.

The problem with practising on a demo

So which one should you use?

Use both, in order:

  1. PlayBack first to find out whether your strategy works. Take 50 to 100 trades over different months and read the results.
  2. A demo account next for a week or two, to practise placing orders on your broker’s platform with live spreads.
  3. Small live size last, once the rules have proven themselves and you know the platform.
